Baptism, or Christening, is the first step on a Christian journey that should last a lifetime...It's a time to thank God for his gift of life, but also an opportunity to make a commitment to living that life within the family of the church.
We love welcoming new members into our church family at St Matthew's (and our sister church of All Saints, Selsley) and promise to do our best to make it easy for you and your children to be comfortable here.
During the service, you will make some big promises on behalf of your child - so before the day, one of the clergy will spend some time with you, making sure that you understand what is involved and talking through ways in which we can support and help you.

We can also offer a service of Thanksgiving and Blessing, if you're not sure that the lifelong commitment of Baptism is right for you at the moment...and this can be a lovely way to celebrate a new arrival and share your joy with family and friends. Some families choose to have a thanksgiving service very soon after the birth of their child, and then move on to Baptism at a later date.
